Obituary

FOWLER – Vivian Geraldine Wakeman, 99, died Sunday, July 25, 2010, at Halstead Place in Halstead.

She was born Dec. 28, 1910, to Guy and Agnes Catherine (Miller) Houser in Dodge City.

She graduated from Dodge City High School in 1929.

She married Leslie E. “Elmer” Wakeman Aug. 16, 1931, in Dodge City. He died April 16, 1995.

She was a secretary to the principal at Dodge City High School.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, the Fowler Squares and the Meade County Camper Club.

She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and square dancing.

She is survived by one son, Leslie E. Wakeman Jr., Salida, Colo.; two daughters, Karen Bevan, Halstead, and Kathy Wakeman, Brighton, Colo.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

o Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Fowler United Methodist Church with Pastor Rod Beavan and the Rev. Dick Robbins presiding.

Burial will follow at Fowler Cemetery.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Kaufman Funeral Home in Halstead and from 8 a.m. until service time Thursday at Fowler United Methodist Church.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice Care of Kansas in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, P.O. Box 70, Meade, KS 67864.
