MEADE – Helen Irene Classen, 92, died Saturday, March 6, 2010.
She was born Aug. 23, 1917, to Abe and Agnus Peters in Minneola.
She married Frank H. Classen June 6, 1937, in Greensburg. He preceded her in death.
After all her children were grown and married, she returned to the classroom to complete the requirements for an LPN degree.
She worked at several nursing homes, in a hospital and home care situations.
She was a member of Meade EMB Church serving as a Sunday School teacher for many, many years. She also served on the food committee, and chairman of the church Ladies’ Mission Society.
She volunteered for Red Cross blood drives, served at the Etc. Shop, and chaired the Cheerful Homemakers Unit.
She enjoyed baking angel food cakes, making cherry pancakes, gardening, canning, flowers and traveling to visit her children and their families.
Survivors include her children Ralph and wife, Ann, Meade; daughters, Frances Moore and Jim of Topeka, Lorene Jones of Little Rock, Ark., Barbara Buschert and husband, Murray, Fulton, Mo., and Marcella Stoll and husband, Doug, Liberal; 10 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 10 step grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, one sister, one grandchild, two great-grandchildren and one son-in-law.
o Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Countryside Bible Church in rural Meade, with the Rev. David Cummings presiding.
Burial will be at the EMB Church Cemetery in rural Meade.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary in Meade, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Minneola Long Term Care Center or the Roca Blanca Missions in care of the funeral home.
