MEADE – Bernard E. Weller, 88, died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at Meade District Hospital.
He was born July 21, 1921, to Howard Eugene and Grace (Merkel) Weller in rural Meade County.
He married Alice Wallace Feb. 13, 1943, in Manhattan. She survives.
He attended school in Meade County, graduating from Fowler High School in 1904. He later attended Kansas State University, graduating in 1946.
He was a member of the United States Army Air Corps serving during World War II. Upon his discharge, he returned to Meade County and continued his farming and ranching career.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Montezuma; Webb Lodge A.F. & A.M; Scottish Rite; Order of the Easter Star; Gray County 4-H; and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
Other survivors include two sons, Steve Weller, Meade, and Bernard E. “Bernie” Weller Jr., Dodge City, two daughters, Susan Watson, Hillsboro, and Amy Zielke, Larned; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
o Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Montezuma with the Rev. Jerry Odle presiding.
Burial will be at the Graceland Cemetery of Meade.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary of Meade.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church or the Webb Lodge A.F. & A.M. in care of the funeral home.
