The Liberal Fire Department received a pleasant surprise Friday from SkillsUSA.

SkillsUSA, the technical education and industry student organization from Seward County Community College/Area Technical School, arrived at Station No. 1 to present the department with stuffed animals to be carried on the emergency response apparatus. These stuffed animals will be given to sick or injured children that the firefighters contact during emergency incidents.

SkillsUSA, according to sponsor Sybil Wagner, started this community service project several weeks ago. They received the stuffed animals through student donations.

SkillsUSA was represented by Jonathan Yowell (Hugoton), Ethan Zweygardt (St. Francis), Brandon Bruner (Hooker, Okla.), Cory Bransgrove (Balko, Okla.), and Wagner.

Accepting the donation on behalf of the Liberal Fire Department were Captain Brian Fornwalt, Firefighter/EMT Pete Welch and Firefighter/EMT Tyler Atkinson.
